Data Catalog

Dataset: 911 Service Areas

Description

Territories of 911 service areas with supporting agency/organization name and contact information.

Collection Methodology

The Public Service Answering Points (PSAPs) have been created based on jurisdictional boundaries, not on telephone exchanges, and therefore can be used to accurately route 911 calls to the appropriate PSAP based on caller location. If the call is relayed or transferred, the next receiving PSAP is designated a Secondary PSAP. Managed by state governments, PSAPs are typically located at the county or city level. There are currently in excess of 4,400 PSAPs in the US.
