Dataset: US Census Tracts

Description

The US Census Tracts dataset is a boundary file with all census tracts in the United States. This data and all associated attribute tables can be found in the Census Demographics and Boundaries dataset.

Collection Methodology

The primary purpose of census tracts is to provide a stable set of geographic units for the presentation of decennial census data. Census Tract boundary data is generated by TIGER. Census tracts are small, relatively permanent statistical subdivisions of a county delineated by local participants as part of the US Census Bureau's Participant Statistical Areas Program. The US Census Bureau delineated census tracts in situations where no local participant existed or where local or tribal governments declined to participate.
